Pinc College Students Experience With Two+Two

Project Inc. post 16 students take part in live brief event and creative design – alongside degree students!

Julie Ollerton, Chair of Project Inc, CEO at Creative Resource and Founder of Two+Two:

For the past few months I’ve had the great pleasure of helping to support Project Inc. as Chair of their board, as they grow and transition from being an inspiring provider of inclusive education for young people with complex needs, to a Specialist College for Creative Education. We were very keen to include students in this year’s Two+Two event and create a meaningful experience for them.  They threw themselves into the day with gusto and were supported by a great friend of Creative Resource Two+Two Mentor and Digital Design Specialist, Ian Patterson.  Ian has written a great overview of the time he spent with the students.

Two+Two Mentor and Digital Design Specialist, Ian Patterson:

“As you know, I had the pleasure of mentoring two student from Project Inc. last Thursday. I didn’t know what to expect, mainly because the brief was based on the hard-hitting topic of paediatric first aid and they were two of the youngest students we had in attendance.

Whilst working with Ellie and Jay I had the most rewarding time and wanted to share this experience with you and capture their ideas – which thoroughly impressed me.

The main thing I was impressed with was the students’ attentiveness and then the speed with which they were able to start generating fully formed ideas. They were both very easy to work with and showed equal creative dexterity to other students at the event who were more advanced in years and study. Part of me put this down to their ‘no fear’ attitude to get stuck in and work on ideas. When I returned to the table after we exchanged some early ideas, I was taken aback with how much they had embraced the brief and how hard they had worked on producing notes, illustrations and – a fully formed script!

Because the students worked so hard, enjoyed themselves and came up with such a powerful idea, I wanted to share this so we could document their work.  It was a pleasure to support Project Inc. on the day, so thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with the students.”

Our students gained a lot of experience around what it is like as a creative to be given a brief – we are looking forward to next year and are ambitious to win!
